For the past few days, I’ve spent a whole lot of time on TED.com. If you haven’t already checked it out, TED is a conference bringing together people working in and fascinated by technology, entertainment and design and the Web site hosts the talks so we all have access to the conversation. The speeches are engaging, thought-provoking and diverse— which partially accounts for the fact that I’ve spent more of finals week watching and discussing TED talks than studying for finals!
We talk often about the “future of journalism”- and I think that Web sites like this are going to be a part of that. Personally I feel that journalism encompasses more than just gathering, organizing and distributing news- it’s, in a way, about exploring people and their stories, and sites like this directly share those with visitors. I think there’s a lot more to be done with this site— a community to be built around it, even. It’ll be interesting to see if it stays as is or what direction it goes in.
If you have a few minutes- or hours- be sure to take a visit.
